چکیده

[1] This study assesses the CMIP5 decadal hindcast/ forecast simulations of seven state-of-the-art oceanatmosphere coupled models. Each decadal prediction consists of simulations over a 10 year period each of which are initialized every five years from climate states of 1960/1961 to 2005/2006. Most of the models overestimate trends, whereby the models predict less warming or even cooling in the earlier decades compared to observations and too much warming in recent decades. All models show high prediction skill for surface temperature over the Indian, North Atlantic and western Pacific Oceans where the externally forced component and low-frequency climate variability is dominant. However, low prediction skill is found over the equatorial and North Pacific Ocean. The Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) index is predicted in most of the models with significant skill, while the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) index shows relatively low predictive skill. The multi-model ensemble has in general better-forecast quality than the single-model systems for global mean surface temperature, AMO and PDO. Citation: Kim, H.-M., P. J. Webster, and J. A. Prediction of Prediction of Climate Change Impacts on Kharkeh Dam Reservoir Inflows with Using of CMIP5-RCP Scenarios

The objective of this research was to investigate the effects of climate change on precipitation and temperature parameters of Karkheh Basin and inflow to Karkheh dam reservoir. This was conducted by applying 21 GCM models under CMIP5 scenarios. The error indices of R2, RMSE and MAE models with the observed precipitation and temperature data were examined to find the appropriate GCM model, MRI-...

Evidence of Decadal Climate Prediction Skill Resulting from Changes in Anthropogenic Forcing

It is argued that simulations of the twentieth century performed with coupled global climate models with specified historical changes in external radiative forcing can be interpreted as climate hindcasts. A simple Bayesian method for postprocessing such simulations is described, which produces probabilistic hindcasts of interdecadal temperature changes on large spatial scales. Hindcasts produce...

Impact of internal variability on projections of Sahel precipitation change

The impact of the increase of greenhouse gases on Sahelian precipitation is very uncertain in both its spatial pattern and magnitude. In particular, the relative importance of internal variability versus external forcings depends on the time horizon considered in the climate projection. In this study we address the respective roles of the internal climate variability versus external forcings on...

Decadal prediction skill in a multi-model ensemble

Decadal climate predictions may have skill due to predictable components in boundary conditions (mainly greenhouse gas concentrations but also tropospheric and stratospheric aerosol distributions) and initial conditions (mainly the ocean state). We investigate the skill of temperature and precipitation hindcasts from a multi-model ensemble of four climate forecast systems based on coupled ocean...

Pacific decadal oscillation hindcasts relevant to near-term climate prediction.

Decadal-scale climate variations over the Pacific Ocean and its surroundings are strongly related to the so-called Pacific decadal oscillation (PDO) which is coherent with wintertime climate over North America and Asian monsoon, and have important impacts on marine ecosystems and fisheries. In a near-term climate prediction covering the period up to 2030, we require knowledge of the future stat...
